Thursday, October 30, 2008Insert Your Own Joke![]() I was watching the local early news yesterday when a story struck me as funny, hysterical actually. A row of stores had burned down in Queens. The reporter on site stood in front of the smoldering stores interviewing one of the business owners in front of his business. As the man spoke about the loss of his business I noticed the smoke tinged sign behind him and roared with laughter. His business was a psychic reading place. Insert your own joke here ‘cause lord knows I did. I guess it’s because react to my laughter knowing it comes from the heart. I’ve had Lisa Lampanelli commiserate with me on men, and Dave Chapelle call me a Puerto Rican keebler elf. He brought the house down when I got up from my table to allow someone to pass by and when I asked how he knew I was Puerto Rican he pointed to my butt. Comedy is my thing and Bernie Mac one of my all time favorites he’s right up there with George Lopez in my book. I have literally cried from laughing so hard at his routines and was lucky enough to catch his perfomances live...amazing. When I was doing the new layout for my blog yesterday I was actually listening to one of my favorite Bernie Mac routines and thinking about adding a comedy section below the music section as soon as I got a chance to upload my comedy CD’s onto a server. This morning I was shocked to hear the news that Bernie Mac died earlier in the morning. Somehow this realm world has just become a little less funnier, heaven’s gain is our loss. The man was amazing and I’m grateful for the laughter he brought into my life. If you’re offended by blue lingo then these routines are not for you. However nothing not even the two cups of coffee I had early this morning prepared me for this… some self-proclaimed patriotic man of God you know the sad thing is it’s always the jerks of the world that claim to be down with the G-O-D has paid for an anti-democrat billboard in Florida. The fact that it’s an anti-democrat message doesn’t bother me. Come on this is an election year after all and there’s been more crap flung around by both major parties than what those crazy chimps fling around at the Bronx zoo. What really irks me is that Mike Meehan the businessman that paid for the billboard is using 9.11 as a backdrop for his message. The billboard shows an American flag with a photo of the burning twin towers superimposed over it and the message reads “Please Don’t Vote For A Democrat" WTF people WTF?! The company that owns the billboard,Beech Outdoor Advertising, sees the situation as a first amendment issue and for that reason didn’t censor the ad. The company said that the billboard will stay up until after the presidential election in November. Ultimately they are right it is an issue of free speech. However I do take issue with Mike Meehan because there was no need to make 9.11 the focal point of his message. Where is his sense of decency? Holy monkey! Man if you don’t want democrats in the white house feel free to campaign against them but don’t use the attack on my city as a basis for your message’s implication. Hello Mike Meehan let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we? The attack on 9.11 happened under a right wing president, a right wing majority both in the senate and the house and to date has gone unpunished. To add insult to injury the same right wing government shut down the CIA unit dedicated to catching Bin Laden back in 2005. The Bush administration claims they have been unable to find him. I doubt they’ve been looking very hard seriously people how hard are it to find a 6ft 5 Arab? Well okay his actual height is subject to debate. People who actually know him insist he’s only 6ft tall. The fact that he surrounds himself with smaller Yemeni bodyguards makes him look taller than he actually is. Still I’ve been hanging around Arabs all my life and have yet to meet one 6ft or over so spotting Bin Laden in a crowd should be a no brainer. I’m pretty sure my short ass teetering on a pair of stiletto heels while drunk out of my mind would have found the behemoth already. Come on he’s got jacked up kidneys he can only go so far.But I digress this post is not about the so called hunt for Bin Laden this is about using 9.11 to further the republican cause and Mike Meehan's “career”.Oh yeah Mike is a musician with his own website that is advertised on the billboard he’s paying for. If I could I would bitch slap him senseless on behalf of friends who lost family, of lost friends, and of my own lost family members. I’d bitch slap him silly and do a Lord of The Dance jig while doing it too. I’d bitch slap him because the pain of it all still lingers in my heart and this insensitive jack ass has the nerve to trivialize it with his billboard. Shame on you Mike Meehan I hope your little republican gets caught in your zipper next time you get dressed. Astronaut / U.S. Navy Capt. Lisa Nowak, 43, who flew last July on a shuttle mission to the international space station, lost her freaking marbles over fellow astronaut, Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein. The crazy diaper wearing (she didn’t want to stop to urinate) heffa drove 900 miles from her house in Houston to Orlando International Airport to confront NASA engineer Colleen Shipman a woman she believed was her rival for the affections of a space shuttle pilot, Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein. There’s a saying that goes a woman scorned…. But WTF? This chick wasn’t even romantically involved with the guy. According to her the relationship with Oefelein was "more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship," WTF? Heffa spazzed out over a guy she’s not even involved with, a man she loves from afar? Nowak by the way is a married mother of three. Police said Nowak told them that she only wanted to scare Shipman into talking to her about her relationship with Oefelein and didn’t want to harm her physically. Uh huh this was why she was wearing a trench coat, a wig and carrying pepper spray, a BB gun, latex gloves, rubber tubing, a steel mallet, a folding knife, garbage bags and $600.00 I’m guessing now that she’s been charged with charged with attempted kidnapping and a bunch of other crap Mr. Nowak will be returning those diamond earrings he picked up from Zale’s as a valentines gift. Those days have gone the way of Aunt Bee and the five cent ice cream cone. It does not matter what type of health insurance you have, how long you’ve been his patient or the disease afflicting you. Heaven forbid you should have Bilateral pneumonia compounded with Conjunctivitis, a broken ankle and toenail fungus no way Juan Pepe is a doctor coming out to your house. At best you’ll get a visiting nurse or a home attendant with a really cool accent. Imagine this you are at home in Florida griping about the humidity, dusting the knick knacks on your wall unit and an old man who looks a lot like a NFL great John Madden carrying a black doctor’s bag knocks on your door. His name is Phillip Winikoff he is a 76 year old doctor, a dedicated professional he is concerned about your health, specifically your boobs and he is offering you a free exam. Now what would you do? Believe it or not a couple of heffas (33 and 36 years old) out in Florida actually fell for it. Amazing ain’t it? A couple of stupid heffas fell for it hook line and sinker. Come on say it with me you know you wanna, come on WTF?! Okay let’s be real now if lets say I was like 90 years old and feeling a lil’ freaky I’d let the “doctor” in… sure Dr. Madden (wink, wink) I’d say as I rolled up my elongated flacid breast like a cinnamon roll and place it into the sexy wrinkled liver spotted hands of the good doctor. The Broward County Sheriff’s office arrested him and are currently investigating to see if the good “doctor” had some more “patients”. I suppose it could have been worse, the John Madden look alike could’ve been offering free prostate exams. I wonder if you would’ve gotten a free ACE Hardware store gift certificate to go with that? He had a hit with the Mick Jagger and Keith Richard song, "That Girl Belongs to Yesterday", which was the first Rolling Stones song to be a success in the United States, and it was mainly due to Pitney's endorsement of the group that helped them to become popular in America. It seems there’s a crazy six toed cat by the name of Lewis out in Connecticut terrorizing his neighbors. He even kicked the local Avon Lady’s ass when she got out of her car. I guess he preferred Mary Kay Cosmetics. The cat has spazzed out so much that he was served with a restraining order by the local cops. It was the first time such an action was taken against a cat in the state. The cat’s owner Ruth Cisero was also arrested, charged with failing to comply with the restraining order and reckless endangerment. Oh yeah and the Avon Lady is suing her as well. Wait, wait there's more! Dig this the cat is supposed to be on Prozack but because he refuses to take it he is now under house arrest. The neighbors hate Lewis so much he’s been egged a few times and sprayed with water hoses. "He looks like Felix the Cat and has six toes on each foot, each with a long claw," Janet Kettman, a neighbor said Monday. "They are formidable weapons." The cat’s packing weapons obviously a sign that he is gang affliated. They need to nip this in the bud and lock the crazy six toed cat up, he’s a bad seed . The news didn’t start to filter around my school until yesterday. She was found dead in the East NY section of Brooklyn. Imette was only 24 years old, she would have been 25 this Thursday. According to the latest reports she was asphyxiated, and sexually assaulted. The police also believe that she was gang raped, and her body showed signs of torture. The animal that killed her chopped off her long hair, and stuffed a sock down her throat. He then wrapped her face in clear tape and dumped her nude body near a highway. The clear, plastic tape left her face frozen in an expression of horror that made her almost unrecognizable to her family, The coroners office says she appeared to be in excruciating pain when she died. Ever since I heard the news I have felt an ache in my heart. This is a story made all the more painful because it is too close to home, she was a student at my school. It has brought tears to my eyes. I can imagine how scared she was. Many a time I have been a little shaken when coming home late at night. She was bar lounging with friends on a Friday night. How many times have my crew and I done the same exact thing? She was only a year older than me, studying the same major. We would have been graduating together. Although we didn’t share a class room we did share professors, a school and several neighborhoods. She lived in the neighborhood where I was born and raised, where my family still lives. She was hanging out with her friends in an area that my friends and I frequent, in a bar that my friends and I have been to. The only difference in our stories is that she was left behind by her friends. She wanted to chill longer to stay until closing time which was a half hour away. Her friends wanted to leave, so she stayed behind all alone. Her body was found in an area of Brooklyn where I have friends and family. My friends and I have a rule we adhere to when we go out. We arrive as a group we leave as a group, no one gets left behind. If someone wants to chill longer and the others want to leave, we stay, we compromise. No one is left behind. If someone meets a cute guy, hurry up and exchange numbers because I am not leaving you behind with him or alone with him no matter what you tell me. I don’t know him. Because of the type of college we attend and our majors we as students are taught how to recognize and prevent crimes. We are taught how to spot the warning signs of a potential criminal in those we meet. As students of a school specializing in criminal justice and forensics we should be more aware and keep our guard up in everyday situations, more than the general public. We know what’s out there, we eat the statistics, the criminal profiles and case studies for breakfast. However no one ever thinks this is going to happen to them do they? As young people sometimes we think we are immortal, nothing can touch us we are invincible. Stuff like that happens to other people not us, never us we have a destiny to fulfill. It was 3:30 am when Imette was last seen alive; she wanted to chill, her friends wanted to bounce. When you're depending on the subway to get you back home to the upper west side 3:30 am waiting for a ride home in that area is like a life time in hell. Catching a cab at that time is nothing short of a miracle. Once 4:00 am hits the subways are running on ultra slow, you can spend up to an hour waiting on the platform for a train.I know it's happened to me many a time. I can understand her friend’s reluctance at wanting to hang around the bar until 4:00 am. I imagine that now they wish they had hung out for the extra half hour even if it meant getting home around 6 am. My heart breaks for her family and friends, especially those who were with her on her last night. I imagine they are full of regrets, their dreams haunted with “what if” and“ if only”. There but for the grace of God goes many a young woman. There but for the grace of God go I. It concerns a Brooklyn child who suffered horrific abuse at the hands of her parents leading to her death. This is a text book case of society failing a child. There were warning signs every where, agencies dragged their feet, neighbors did nothing. Now the rest of the city is outraged and mourning this child. Fingers are being pointed and blame is being doled out like candy on halloween. The truth is that in that particular community there is enough blame to share. People in the area came in contact with the child every day, they saw, they heard, and most importantly she told them what was going on. Yet no one did a damn thing to protect this child. Too many times in this society people are so afraid of getting involved they’ll turn their heads and look the other way instead of stepping in and helping. The school reported it to ACS but they dragged their feet, they failed to get her out of there or get a warrant to get into the apartment when they were turned away by the step father. The man in charge of her case was an incompetent. While working on her case another child he was supposed to be protecting drowned in a bathtub while in the care of its' drug addicted mother. Her name was Nixzmary Brown a beautiful Puerto Rican/Pakastani child. She was 7 yrs old and weighed 36 lbs when she died at 4:30 am Wednesday morning. Imagine 36 lbs on a 7 yr old, that’s what a 4 yr old should be weighing. She was singled out for abuse by her step father a 27 yr old man who had been discharged from the army for having kiddie porn. Not content to starve her, and torture her he also sexually abused her. Her mother did nothing to stop him. He beat her to death on Wednesday over a container of yogurt the hungry child had taken a container of yogurt from the fridge without his consent and he flew into a rage. It’s been reported that he used to feed her cat food and lock her in a dark room where she had to use a litter box as a bathroom. He is being charged with murder, she is being charged with manslaughter. I feel she should be charged with murder as well. This was her baby, she carried her for nine months and brought her into this world. It was her job as a mother to protect her child. Instead she allowed this vile monster to abuse her child. They say she was cried when she was shown her daughters picture on the front page of the newspaper the next day in her cell. There are those who will paint the mother as a victim suggesting that she too was battered at the hands of this small slightly built man. No one ever saw her battered and bruised yet bruises seemed to be part of her child's everyday attire. I'm sorry I don't buy the mother being a victim defense. She had family here in New York she could have turned to, and seemed well aware of how the system worked to get herself out of a shelter and into an apartment. I'm sure while at the shelter she learned about domestic violence assistance etc. it's something that is automatically discussed with shelter residents. I have no pity in my heart for this woman. I refuse to see her as a victim. To me she was simply a woman who put her man before her children. I strongly feel that every person who knew what was going on should be arrested. Trust me they are easy to find because they are the ones talking to the press right now. They knew a crime was going on and did nothing to stop it. They are just as guilty as the mother. This one man Perry Robinson has been giving interviews to the press "She would say, 'He threatened to kill me and mom and everyone,'" said Perry Robinson, the uncle of one of Nixzmary's playmates. "She was so petrified." Robinson, 49, a retired paralegal, said he noticed the bruises on the spirited girl many times. But he never called the cops. He even described an incident in which Nixzmary hid behind him when she saw her tormentor. He confronted the step father and threatened him with physical harm if he touched Nixzmary again. After making the threat he allowed the child to walk away with her parents. By confiding him she was asking him for help, she didn’t need him to threaten her step father making him even more angry. I’m sure he took out his anger on her. All he needed to do was call the police. I hope this man never gets another night of peaceful sleep for the rest of his life. All he had to do was make a phone call, one phone call. (AP): A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire. Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it. "I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday. Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there and throughout the house. No was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed. Unseasonably dry and windy conditions have charred more than 53,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes in southeastern New Mexico in recent weeks. "I've seen numerous house fires," village Fire Department Capt. Jim Lyssy said, "but nothing but nothing as unique as this one." I can just picture the mouse yelling, " You want a piece of this? You want a piece of this? BONZAIIIIIII!!!" and running back into the house. Especially when you consider ol' swirly head puts his name on everything he does so chances are NY's capital (Albany) would be renamed Trumpany. The New York transit strike is over. After three days of basically screwing over New York City residents, the union was forced to abandon the strike. For three days the head of the local union, Roger Toussaint ignored pleas/orders from the international transit workers union to go back to work. He ignored the stiff fines a judge imposed on the union and it’s workers. It was only when faced with jail for contempt of court that Toussaint order his workers back on the job. So you’re thinking…. Ahhhh their demands were met right? Umm nope they weren’t. Everything is as it was before the strike. The union will continue negotiating the pension issue with the MTA with the help of a state mediator something the union had opposed prior to the strike. This strike was pointless - everyone lost, the union got fined 1 million per day.If it had kept up they would have gone bankrupt within a week. The workers lost b/c they got fined 2 days salary for every day of the strike, not to mention the public sees them as greedy and selfish now. Most of all New Yorkers lost. Here’s the toll of what Toussaint’s strike managed to accomplish: • Businesses vital to our economy lost millions of dollars . • Forced people to pay mega pesos to get to work. • Deprived a lot of working people of pay; not everyone could afford to shell out the bucks to get around to work especially if it meant paying more in one day for transportation than they make in a day. • Cost the taxpayers approximately $50 million in security costs and reduced tax revenue; • Tore at the social fabric by playing the race card. Toussaint stated that the TWU, whose membership is largely minority, was under siege for racial reasons; • Saddled his own rank-and-file with $28 million in mandatory penalties and foregone wages while gaining them nothing. Toussaint put his workers and the rest of New York through hell for nada. Not everyone in the union supported the strike, there was dissention some tried to break the strike on the 2nd day. To them it made no sense to be on strike. Much like the late Rodney Dangerfield Toussaint felt that he and the union got no respect from the public. Perhaps rather than striking it would have been wiser for Toussaint to have mounted a PR campaign complete with rallies and commercials designed to win the public over by listing the unions grievances as Aretha Franklin’s Respect played in the background. It was just a thought. Well if Roger Toussaint thought they didn’t have respect then I hope he’s watching now. Rather than greeting the workers back with a smile they are being greeting with dirty looks and some serious head shaking. A few even flipped a passing bus the bird as it made it’s way down my block this morning. I dedicate the song "Respect" to the people of NY and the union workers we all deserve some... On the first day our mayor accused the strikers of thuggery and not looking out for the people of New York. Businesses are losing money, people are spending more money than they earn per day trying to get into work. So far everyone I’ve encountered wants to beat the union leader down, they all feel that in looking out for themselves the union failed to realize they are f’ing our city over financially. This just when we are starting to recover from the financial distress 9/11. People are standing outside Metro North stations and Penn Station in freezing weather for up to 4 hrs at a time trying to get into the city to work. Schools are practically empty in my brother’s school of 5,000 they only had 500 kids show up the 1st day of the strike and today they had less the school was so empty they were playing man hunt in the halls. While I support what the union is trying to do for the next generation of transit workers I oppose the strike. The MTA had conceded on the matter of salary increases I felt that with continued negotiations the rest could have been resolved. The thing is this when all is said and done the union workers will have a job to go back to…but what about the people who can’t go into work and lose their jobs because of this? The union claims that this strike is about respect… but where is the respect for the public many who are worse off financially than the transit workers? A lot of people who ride the subways aren’t earning 47-55 thousand per year before over time…a lot of them are struggling paycheck to paycheck and this strike is going to be hardest on them. Matter of respect my ass, that’s all I’m saying for now. I was riding the subway home today and this man began addressing the crowded train. He said we should send a message to the MTA and the union of this nonsense that they are putting us through by boycotting the system once the negations are over. He was an excellent orator; he had the crowd spellbound until he decided to spell…. “We are doomed! D – U – M – E – D, DOOMED!” When he was done we all looked at each other, some laughed, and others did a mental spell check. I love the subways! I almost shot milk out my nostril when I heard this story… This French dude calling himself the prince of pleasure met a girl online, and had a cyber relationship complete with poems and “racy dialogue” the story goes. I’m sure by racy dialogue they meant cyber sex. This went on for 6 months and then they decided to meet. The dude felt that this woman was the female of his dreams. After arranging to meet on romantic secluded beach , Prince spots his Juliette wearing the outfit she said she would…"I walked out on that dark beach thinking I was going to hook up with the girl of my dreams, and there she was. Wearing white shorts and a pink tank top, just like she'd said she would. But when I got close, she turned around -- and we both got the shock of our lives. I mean, I didn't know what to say. All I could think was, 'Oh my God! it's Mama!" See if it would have ended there ,it would have been okay mother and son could have kept it a secret. But oh no, no, no ‘twas not meant to be! Just then a cop came and busted them for being on a restricted beach and the dynamic duo blurted their whole story out. The cop obviously the town snitch called a local paper and viola! Now you know the story of what happened between a French dude named Daniel Anceneaux aka Prince of Pleasure and his 52 yr old mom Nicole aka Sweet Juliette. Oh yeah Sweet Juliette’s hubby , Daniel’s dad has banned her from chatting on the internet. As I read the story which occured a few minutes from my home I couldn't help but think of a line from a favorite movie "A Bronx Tale" about wasted potential. I felt horrible for the officer's family, and the actor's family. I felt horrible for my city we just buried an officer also killed in the line of duty earlier this week such a tragedy for all invloved. Undoubtly our governor George Pataki will be once again be calling for the death penalty since an officer was killed. Lillo Brancato 29,co-star of "A Bronx Tale” has been arrested for the murder of an off duty NYC police officer Daniel Enchautegui, 28. The police officer interrupted a break-in next-door to his home in the Pelham Bay section of The Bronx and was killed yesterday in a blazing gun battle with the two burglars – Lillo Brancato and ex conSteven Armento, 48. Brancato was unarmed, but Armento allegedly opened fire with a .357 Smith & Wesson, hitting Enchautegui in the left side of the chest and piercing his aorta with a hollow-point bullet. Despite being mortally wounded Officer Enchautegui, took down the suspects - shooting Brancato and Armento several times before collapsing in his Bronx driveway, "It looks like every bullet he fired hit these guys," a police official said. The pair may have been hunting for a stash of dope they wrongly believed to be in the house they were breaking into. For those not familiar with the name he’s the one that played “C” as a teenager and he was fantastic in the role, he also played Matt Bevilacqua on "The Sopranos” along with a bunch of other movie roles. Lillo Brancato looked destined for great things. Wasted potential. Mr. Pryor was in my opinion one of the world’s funniest comedians. As a kid my parents were big fans of his and I grew up watching his concert tapes, movies, and listening to his comedy albums. There were times he mad me laugh until I cried. Countless of comedians like Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams idolized and were inspired by him. Thanks for the laughs Mr. Pryor may you be at peace now.
